"I had to think awhile and went back to my first time at Camp Paron when I attended Music Camp in Feb. That would have been 15 years or so ago when I was playing the piano at Dermott Baptist Church. In spite of the fact that it was really cold walking back and forth from the cabins, it was still a great experience and I attended that for several years. It was wonderful hearing musicians from all over the state singing in that beautiful chapel.

Then I began attending the WMU Women's Retreats in Oct. each year. This is still my favorite. Listening to missionaries, singing, praying and studying God's word in that beautiful setting always lifts me up.

The past two years I have been going as a volunteer worker in the dining hall and snack shack. I'm not sure how this came about but it may have started when I was making s'mores in the kitchen during one of the Women's Retreats and told Gary that I could come back and help at camps. I love working with Gary Sloan and his family and meeting people from all over the state. It is just a blessing to be able to serve others and to know that God can still use me at 71 years of age."

"When I turn off the highway to enter Camp Paron I leave behind the hustle and bustle of the busy world. No phones, TVs, or newspapers to distract from the purpose of this camp which is to Worship the Lord.

The sights and sounds are a pretty Chapel with a beautiful stained glass window. Cabins set among the trees on the hill in clusters of 4. Rustic yet modern, something for everyone. In the summer you hear children's laughter and singing, counselors praying and planning. In the fall you hear ladies talking, laughing, and getting reacquainted with friends they made the year before. At night there is a peace and quiet that falls over the camp as the lights go out and sleep comes at the end of a busy day.

On the night of the camp fire you hear voices lifted up to the Lord in song, prayers, then the candles are lit and the children start up the hill. I think of the song "Send the Light." This time is a highlight for me. It is symbolic to me for all these children to someday go forth with that light out into this dark world.

This is the place He called me to be one of His children and now He has once again called me, this time to minister as a servant to His other children of all ages. I am thankful that God granted me the ministry of Camp Paron.

He has also given me a Christian family to work for at camp and I am thankful for Gary and Sharon Sloan and their 3 children.

I volunteer for retreats and summer camps. This is my first love when it come to ministry."
